Pylon at Merton Abbey Mills by Marco age 6 permanent pen on recycled material displayed in classroomFILM-MAKERS Sav Kyriacou and Lindsay Starbuck have produced a charming DVD showing ACAVA artist Sally Booth working with children aged 6-7 at Merton Abbey Primary School.

Sally, based at the Cannizaro Artist Studios, was artist-in-residence earlier this year with the Year 2 pupils under an educational agreement between ACAVA and Merton Council. She led a drawing project with the children for five weeks using the local urban environment and Wandle Trail as inspiration. The pupils experimented with new drawing materials, including graphite sticks, charcoal, white pens, till rolls and recycled paper, and drew on location at Merton Abbey Mills. They produced some great work both from life and from memory. Pupil Marco's drawing of a pylon is shown left.

The DVD, entitled Art at the Abbey, was shown at the school on 6th June and a selection of the children's work from Merton Abbey Mills appeared in an installation on 7th June as part of the Wandle Valley Festival. Examples of Sally's own till roll drawings of the 14 mile Wandle Trail appear below. To see more go to residencies.
