FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Leaflets reveal those rare trees Winter 2004/5
A NUMBER of Cannizaro’s many rare trees have finally been labelled after a long-running project to identify them for visitors. Some 37 of the 250 trees identified two years ago by the dendrologist Tony Titchen are featured in a new leaflet "Cannizaro Park and its Trees" written by Merton’s leisure and technical facilities manager, Chris Mountford, and designed by the Friends. Containing a map with a numbered key, the leaflets cost £3 and are available by writing to the Friends of Cannizaro Park c/o Willow House. Among those included are a 300-year-old oak, the "double" black pine, sassafras, sequoias, magnolias, acers, birches and cedars. The rest of Cannizaro’s rare collection will also be labelled over time. Further tree walk leaflets will also be produced, explaining where they can be found. Friends of Cannizaro Park have also produced a superb selection of full colour photographs of the park in postcard format. Seven different designs are available with ten cards of any design costing £3.50. They normally cost 40p each or £1.50 for four. Contact the Friends c/o Willow House for your set. The two booklets, Cannizaro Park: Wimbledon's Finest Garden and The Wildlife of Cannizaro Park are also available at reduced prices. For More Information Contact: |
