LINKS between the Friends and local schools are to be revived so that more children can gain lasting pleasure from time spent in Cannizaro Park. The last event of this sort was the "Minibeasts" walk led by Merton arboriculturist Dave Lofthouse in 2003 (above).

Committee members Dee Jones, Pam Hinton and Anne Peacock are planning tours to study wildlife, flowers, plants, contrasting buildings, and sculptures that will reflect topics of interest and relevance as well as the ages of the young people involved.

Suggested activities to be reviewed by staff, parents and children could include an annual poetry, descriptive writing or painting competition arising from children’s observations in the park.

The concept will also be explored of twinning young people of a similar age in exchange visits to another park with a visit to Cannizaro.
