Three Musketeers to battle for honour in
the Italian Garden

Following its critically acclaimed sell-out show at last year's Edinburgh Festival, the Livewire Theatre Company, a specialist open air touring group, will perform the romantic drama, "The Man in the Iron Mask" in Cannizaro Park on 14th, 15th, and 16th August. Shows start around 8.15pm.

Moonlight...a lonely road..hoof beats...a naked blade...betrayal! The court whispers of the madness of King Louis...and his brother, the lost prince, is hidden where no man may see his face...yet he must be found. The Three Musketeers Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, together with D’Artagnan, will fight for the honour of France against their old enemy Cardinal Richelieu, The Fox, in this high octane, rip-roaring, romance based on Alexandre Dumas' classic tale.

The Livewire Theatre Company has played at National Trust properties and historic homes for the last ten years. It is the only group ever to have been given the opportunity to perform on the atmospheric Arthur's Seat, Edinburgh. This year the company is embarking on a nationwide tour of "The Man in the Iron Mask" with each show devoted to a different ecological or children's charity. Performing on the grass in Cannizaro's Italian Garden, one of the three performances in August will be dedicated towards raising funds for park.

The production will be timely in view of the cancellation of this year's Cannizaro Park Festival following the financial difficulties that have dogged the event for many years. Unlike the last three festivals, "The Man in the Iron Mask" will be performed without costly seating or all-weather infrastructure. Audiences will be encouraged to enjoy picnics on the lawn while watching the show.

Producer Jessica Tate said: "We will bring all our own technology and require no electricity or facilities. The staging will be minimal and cause no damage to the park. On Arthur's Seat we performed in an area of rare natural grasses and were able to stage the play without harming any of the plants."

Tickets, available both at the gate and in advance, will cost £12 per adult, with £8 concessionary price, £6 for children and a family ticket (two adults an two children) of £35.
