Vandals strike at Diana and the Fawn
Diana and the Fawn, Cannizaro Park's 168-year-old marble statue, has been vandalised. Just four years after the statue was professionally cleaned and restored to pristine condition, a vandal has degraded it. See above and left, by comparison, as it looked before the attack. Cannizaro's permanent and temporary artworks have both been subject to attacks by vandals over many years. Four years ago both Diana and the statue of Abyssinian Emperor Haile Selassie were restored after years of neglect. Diana's restoration was an initiative by Toby Christian, a student from Wimbledon College of Art, in association with the Friends of Cannizaro Park and Merton Council. |
